Trump Calls for Iran–Israel De-escalation, Urges Tehran to Resume Talks

(MENAFN) Donald Trump has called on Iran to return to negotiations following missile launches against Israel, while also urging Israeli leadership to refrain from immediate retaliation, according to reports. He argued that diplomatic efforts still had room to progress and that escalation should be avoided for the moment.

In remarks made during an interview, Trump directly addressed Tehran, saying: “You've shot your missiles, that's enough. Get back to the table and make a deal.”

He also indicated that he expected a potential agreement with Iran could be reached very soon, suggesting it might come together “Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of this coming week.”

The missile strikes from Iran were reportedly carried out in response to ongoing Israeli military actions in the region, including strikes in Lebanon. These developments unfolded despite earlier attempts at US-brokered understandings, as tensions continued to escalate. Israel, which has carried out repeated operations in Lebanon, was also linked to a recent strike targeting a Hezbollah position in Beirut.

Hezbollah has been central to the broader regional confrontation, with Iran stating that any lasting diplomatic breakthrough would require a full ceasefire in Lebanon before any agreement with Washington can move forward.

According to reports, a senior US official said the current administration had not approved Israel’s Beirut strike. The official also noted that Trump had spoken directly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, urging restraint and postponement of further military action, with the message that: "we are close to doing something good in terms of a deal."
