Hezbollah Publishes Vid of Drone Attacks Near Strategic Lebanese Fortress

(MENAFN) Hezbollah has published video footage that it says shows drone strikes targeting Israeli forces near Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon, a historic fortress that was recently captured by Israeli troops during ongoing military operations.

The medieval stronghold, which dates back roughly nine centuries, was taken by Israeli forces over the weekend. Israeli officials described the capture as a significant military achievement, highlighting the site's strategic location overlooking large areas of southern Lebanon.

The fortress has long held military importance. During Israel’s previous presence in southern Lebanon, the site served as a military position for nearly two decades before Israeli forces withdrew from the region in 2000.

The video released by Hezbollah a day after the castle's capture appears to show first-person-view (FPV) drones operating in the surrounding area. According to reports, Israeli forces did not encounter Hezbollah fighters at the fortress itself, and no weapons or military infrastructure were reportedly discovered there after the site was secured.

The footage depicts two separate drone strikes. In one sequence, a drone appears to hit a building being used by Israeli personnel. Another segment shows a drone striking a military vehicle parked alongside other vehicles in the area.

Recent fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has been marked by a notable increase in the use of FPV drones by the Lebanese group. Videos released over recent months have shown attempts to target military personnel, armored vehicles and equipment associated with Israeli operations.

Reports indicate that Hezbollah has also claimed attacks against higher-value military assets, including air-defense-related equipment. However, some analysts have questioned whether all of the targets shown in such footage were operational systems or decoys.

The growing use of low-cost attack drones has emerged as a major challenge in modern warfare across the region. According to reports, Israeli forces have adopted a range of defensive measures against the threat, including protective cages, netting systems and other improvised counter-drone protections for vehicles and military positions.
