Lebanese University Postpones Exams After Students Killed in Southern Attack

(MENAFN) Lebanon’s state-run university has postponed a number of examinations following the deaths of two students and their father in a strike while they were returning to the country’s south after completing exams.

According to the National News Agency (NNA), a car carrying a dentist from the border village of Qlayaa was struck on the Nabatieh-Khardali road by what was described as an enemy drone. The incident reportedly killed the father and his two children, both university students in their early twenties.

A local priest, Father Antonios Farah, said the family had traveled earlier in the day so the students could sit for their university exams before heading back home.

“The man and his two children went to the university in the morning so they could do their examinations, and on their way back the Israeli drone hit their car,” he said.

In a statement, the Lebanese University expressed sorrow over the deaths of the two students, describing them as victims of an attack on civilians on the Khardali road. The institution also noted that it has lost a significant number of students, faculty members and staff amid ongoing violence in the region.

The university announced that examinations scheduled at its Beirut southern suburbs campus and in the southern city of Sidon would be postponed until next week due to the prevailing security situation.

Father Antonios said the incident had deeply affected the local community, describing the victims as respected members of the village. He added that personal items, including a Bible and prayer book, were found in the damaged vehicle.

Local reports indicated that multiple strikes were carried out across southern Lebanon during the same period.

According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, thousands of people have been killed and wounded since the escalation of hostilities began in early March, underscoring the continuing human toll of the conflict.
