Hezbollah Drones Cripple 80 Percent of Israeli Operations in Lebanon
(MENAFN) Explosive-laden drones deployed by Hezbollah are now severely curtailing nearly 80% of Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon, Israel's public broadcaster reported Monday — with the army simultaneously grappling with critical shortages in the counter-drone equipment needed to fight back.
The broadcaster said the Israeli military's own assessment confirmed that drone threats had dramatically eroded the army's operational freedom across southern Lebanon, while also inflicting casualties among troops on the ground. The situation has grown so severe that a significant share of military operations have been shifted exclusively to nighttime hours to avoid the heightened risk of drone strikes during daylight.
Compounding the crisis, anti-drone equipment is being rationed across units — distributed to only a fraction of soldiers within each company due to acute supply shortfalls, the broadcaster reported.
The broadcaster further cited sources within Israeli military intelligence as warning that Hezbollah had undergone a significant tactical transformation in recent days, abandoning its conventional command hierarchy in favour of a decentralised, guerrilla-style model. The group has increasingly turned to smaller, agile cells executing rapid hit-and-run strikes while manoeuvring between villages across southern Lebanon — a shift attributed in part to Israel's targeted killing of senior commanders from the elite Radwan Force.
Earlier Monday, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for 11 separate drone and missile strikes against Israeli troops and military vehicles in both southern Lebanon and northern Israel, stating the attacks were carried out in direct response to ongoing Israeli ceasefire violations.
The escalating drone campaign has reached the highest levels of Israeli leadership. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described the threat as a "major threat" and pressed the military to urgently develop effective countermeasures.
