Israeli Army Reduces Helicopter Landing Time in Lebanon
The adjustment is part of a broader set of measures designed to counter an increasing threat from explosive-laden drones allegedly launched by Hezbollah against Israeli forces. The broadcaster said military representatives recently discussed the issue in a closed session with lawmakers in the Knesset, where they presented updated countermeasures.
Among the steps outlined, the army is also upgrading soldiers’ equipment to improve drone interception capabilities. This includes enhanced optical systems and fragmentation ammunition intended to increase accuracy and effectiveness against aerial targets.
In addition, the military has reportedly decided to shorten helicopter landing durations inside Lebanese territory, particularly during medical evacuation missions, in order to reduce the chance of detection and subsequent drone strikes.
The changes follow recent incidents in which Israeli personnel were injured after Hezbollah launched an explosive drone targeting a helicopter involved in an evacuation operation.
Hezbollah has continued to carry out drone and missile attacks against Israeli forces and military vehicles in southern Lebanon, framing its actions as responses to ongoing Israeli violations of a temporary ceasefire arrangement.
US President Donald Trump previously announced a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon on April 17, later stating that it would be extended by an additional three weeks.
According to Lebanese official figures cited in reports, Israeli strikes since early March have resulted in at least 2,534 deaths and 7,863 injuries, while more than 1.6 million people have been displaced.
