Five Family Members Reportedly Killed in Southern Lebanon Airstrike

(MENAFN) According to reports from the Lebanese National News Agency, five members of the same family were killed in an overnight Israeli airstrike targeting the town of Jibchit in southern Lebanon, despite the existence of a ceasefire agreement.

The strike reportedly hit a residential building belonging to the Bahja family in the al-Jabal neighborhood. The building was destroyed in the attack, resulting in multiple fatalities, including a married couple and three relatives, among them two children, as stated in the report.

Emergency response teams worked through the night to clear rubble from the damaged structure and recover the victims’ bodies.

The incident comes at a time when a ceasefire is officially in place between Lebanon and Israel, following earlier extensions of a temporary truce agreement.

Lebanese authorities have reported significant casualties and displacement since the escalation of cross-border hostilities earlier in the year, with official figures citing thousands of deaths and large-scale population displacement.

The ceasefire, initially implemented in mid-April, was later extended for an additional period, though reports indicate continued sporadic violence and violations on the ground despite the agreement.
