Lebanon Says Three Civil Defense Members Trapped After Israeli Strike

(MENAFN) The Lebanese Civil Defense said Tuesday that three of its personnel were trapped under rubble after an Israeli strike hit during a rescue mission in southern Lebanon.

In a statement, the agency said its teams were struck while responding to casualties from an earlier Israeli airstrike in the town of Majdal Zoun. It added that the three civil defense members became trapped while carrying out their emergency duties.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun strongly condemned the incident, describing it as part of what he said was a wider pattern of attacks targeting emergency and relief workers.

According to the Lebanese presidency, Aoun said the strike “adds to a series of assaults targeting relief and ambulance workers,” arguing that such actions reflect continued violations of international law and relevant conventions. The statement also said Israel has maintained its military operations in Lebanon despite a declared temporary ceasefire.

The ceasefire was first announced on April 17 by US President Donald Trump, who later said it would be extended by an additional three weeks.

Lebanese official figures indicate that since March 2, Israeli strikes have resulted in at least 2,534 deaths, 7,863 injuries, and the displacement of more than 1.6 million people.
