UNIFIL Reports Israeli Tank Rammed their Vehicles in Southern Lebanon

(MENAFN) The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported on Sunday that Israeli tanks had rammed its vehicles in southern Lebanon, causing significant damage and severely restricting the movement of peacekeepers in the area.

According to a statement from the mission, Israeli soldiers used a Merkava tank to strike UNIFIL vehicles on two separate occasions, one of which resulted in heavy damage. UNIFIL explained that the soldiers had blocked a road in Bayada, which is a key access point to their positions.

In addition to the ramming incidents, the peacekeeping force said that Israeli troops had fired “warning shots” over the past week, with some of the rounds hitting clearly marked UN vehicles.

In one particular instance, a shot struck about one meter away from a peacekeeper who had just exited his vehicle.

UNIFIL further noted that Israeli forces had repeatedly blocked access for peacekeepers along the same road and had imposed restrictions on movement in other regions, complicating their ability to carry out their duties. The mission also reported that Israeli forces had destroyed surveillance cameras at its headquarters in Naqoura, as well as at five other positions along the Blue Line, from Ras Naqoura to Maroun al-Ras, since early April.
