Drone Strike in Southern Lebanon Kills Two Despite US-Iran Ceasefire
The vehicle was struck near the town of Mimas in the Hasbaya district, as stated by local media.
The US and Iran announced a two-week truce on Tuesday intended to create conditions for a broader agreement to end the conflict that began on February 28, leaving thousands dead and injured.
Pakistani mediators indicated that the ceasefire applies to Lebanon, while Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, asserted that it does not. Hezbollah has reportedly honored the ceasefire, despite ongoing Israeli strikes.
Reports noted that at least eight people were killed and 22 more wounded in an Israeli attack on the southern city of Sidon on Wednesday, following the ceasefire announcement.
Israel has conducted both airstrikes and ground operations in southern Lebanon since a cross-border Hezbollah attack on March 2, even though a previous ceasefire took effect in November 2024.
Lebanese authorities report that the ongoing Israeli operations have so far resulted in at least 1,530 deaths and 4,812 injuries.
