Israeli Airstrikes Kill Eight in South Lebanon

(MENAFN) At least eight people were killed in a series of Israeli airstrikes carried out at dawn and into Tuesday morning across southern Lebanon, Lebanon's National News Agency reported.

According to the agency, three people were killed in a strike on the village of Tayr Debba, while separate attacks left one person dead in the Zebdine area and another in Deir al-Zahrani.

In a separate incident near Tyre, the toll from an earlier dawn strike rose to three after a woman who had been wounded later died from her injuries.

In response, Hezbollah said in multiple statements that it launched rocket attacks against Israeli military positions, settlements, and troops.

Meanwhile, Lebanon's General Security Directorate pushed back against Israeli claims regarding activity at the Masnaa border crossing — the country’s primary land route to Syria and the broader Arab region.

In a statement issued through its media office, the directorate stressed that Masnaa operates as an official crossing and cannot be used for arms smuggling. It added that all vehicles and cargo undergo rigorous inspections, dismissing allegations of illicit weapons transfers as baseless.

Hostilities along the Lebanon-Israel frontier have persisted since March 2, when Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel for the first time since a ceasefire that began on Nov. 27, 2024. The exchange has since escalated, with Israeli strikes intensifying across southern and eastern Lebanon, including Beirut’s southern suburbs.
