Israeli Attacks Beirut, Killing Seven People

(MENAFN) Reports indicate that Israeli airstrikes in southern Beirut and nearby areas killed seven people and injured dozens, according to Lebanon’s health authorities.

“The Israeli enemy's raid on the Jnah area in Beirut has, according to an initial toll, resulted in five martyrs and 21 others wounded,” a ministry statement said, referring to a district in southern Beirut.

A Lebanese security source stated that the strikes in Jnah targeted four vehicles parked on the street. Another strike in Khaldeh, just south of Beirut, killed two people and injured three more, according to a separate statement from the health ministry.

Israel’s military confirmed on Wednesday that it had targeted a senior Hizbollah commander and another member of the Iran-backed group in Beirut through two separate strikes, without providing specific location details.

Lebanon became involved in the ongoing Middle East conflict on March 2, following attacks by Hizbollah on Israel in retaliation for the killing of Iran’s leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Israel has since responded with extensive airstrikes across Lebanon and a ground offensive.

Authorities in Lebanon report that the recent hostilities have resulted in more than 1,200 deaths and displaced over one million people. Hizbollah has claimed dozens of attacks against Israeli targets and reported clashes with Israeli soldiers near the southern border on Tuesday.
