Israeli Strikes on S. Lebanon Kill Two Hezbollah Members

(MENAFN) Two operatives affiliated with Hezbollah lost their lives Sunday following distinct Israeli aerial assaults across Lebanon's southern region, according to reports from a Lebanese media outlet.

The outlet documented that an Israeli unmanned aerial vehicle launched a pair of precision-guided munitions at a vehicle traveling close to Al-Ma'sarah along the Houmine Al-Fawqa route within Nabatieh district, resulting in one fatality. A separate assault struck a pickup vehicle positioned between Al-Sawwaneh and Khirbet Selm in the nation's southeastern territory, claiming another life.

Intelligence sources within Lebanon's military apparatus confirmed to a news agency that both casualties held membership in Hezbollah: engineer Abbas Al-Jawad, eliminated in Houmine Al-Fawqa, and Hassan Ali Sultan, killed in the vicinity of Al-Sawwaneh.

In a parallel development, the outlet disclosed that Israeli defense forces are conducting excavation operations at a newly established military installation adjacent to Aitaroun in Lebanon's southwestern sector.

A senior Lebanese military intelligence officer revealed the construction efforts form part of Israel's strategic initiative to strengthen one among five heavily fortified installations positioned throughout the border zone. The Israeli engineering contingent, deploying bulldozers alongside excavation machinery, is constructing earthen defensive barriers, reinforced protective structures designed for armored vehicle deployment, and observation installations with direct sightlines into Lebanese sovereign territory.

A ceasefire arrangement mediated by U.S. and French diplomatic channels between Hezbollah and Israel took effect Nov. 27, 2024, bringing closure to hostilities that erupted following the Gaza war. Notwithstanding the cessation agreement, Israel persists with intermittent strikes throughout Lebanon, justifying operations as necessary to neutralize Hezbollah "threats," while sustaining five primary installations spanning the border.
